The RISE… The FALL… The TOMORROW… is the chronicle of the journey of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance from 2012 to 2024 and constitutes the continuation of the book 20 years were needed (1992-2012). In the book, "The Rise…" it starts from the three-year period 2012-2015, when SYRIZA, from the official opposition, after an unprecedented polling and political boost, took over the government of the country.
It continues with the period January 2015-September 2015, a particularly critical time, characterized mainly by the confrontation between the Greek government and European "partners," who had the full support of the Greek political and social establishment, which culminated in the referendum, in which the Greek people clearly supported the government’s stance. Despite the forced compromise with the creditors, SYRIZA emerged victorious again in the parliamentary elections in September 2015.
This period includes SYRIZA's governmental term, 2015-2019, with the exit from the Memoranda in 2018 and with an overall positive record, which coexisted with mistakes and inadequacies. "The Fall…" covers the period 2019-2024. During these years, there was a gradual decrease in SYRIZA’s percentages – as a result of many factors that require further study – which led to the defeat in the parliamentary elections of 2023, the resignation of Alexis Tsipras, and the emergence of new leadership.
After the traumatic experience of the year 2023-2024, SYRIZA was led to the internal party elections in November 2024 and to the beginning of a new period. "The Tomorrow…" justifies a cautious optimism for SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance. The conclusions drawn from the overall journey can be utilized in the new phase, in the new beginning.
In order for SYRIZA-PS to contribute meaningfully, with political initiatives and the most suitable organizational forms, to stop the decline of the country, to organize the progressive overturn, to open the way for a society of solidarity, justice, and democracy. To renew, once again, the great Cause and the great Promise.
