Exactly the same as in the 80s. It has a white, clean light, but the buttons are hard to press. Very beautiful, very thin, and discreet.

The DW-5600RL is, for me, the best CASIO / G-SHOCK watch for my needs.

Here’s why I think the DW-5600RL is the best choice:

    1) It’s a G-SHOCK. Like all G-SHOCKs, it meets Casio’s durability standards. Nothing more is needed.

    2) It’s affordable. In fact, it’s the second cheapest square G-SHOCK you can buy. The cheapest is the DW-5600UE, with the only real difference being the color.

(price reference as of December 2025)

    3) It combines three eras in one watch:
    – the look of the original 1983 G-SHOCK
    – the classic 5600 case first released in 1987
    – this specific RL version, first released in 2025

In a way, it’s three generations in one watch.

    4) Yes, I know — it’s not solar and it doesn’t have automatic time sync via radio waves or Bluetooth. But for me, that’s not a drawback. On the contrary, it remains true to the philosophy of the original G-SHOCK: simplicity and real usability. Objectively, solar models are more technologically advanced. But “technically better” doesn’t always mean “better for your needs.”

    5) Thanks to the new LED lighting, power consumption is at least twice as efficient compared to older versions, offering a real battery life of 5–7+ years. If you change the battery properly and lubricate the gasket, this watch can realistically last a lifetime. And let’s be honest — if you’re reading this review, you’re not the type to forget a battery change or ruin the water resistance. Accept it.

    6) The clarity of the digital display is better than that of the solar models, and in everyday use this matters much more than a battery change every 5–7 years (a 5-minute job).

    7) The alarm and hourly chime are louder and clearer than many newer models, which adds real daily usability.

    8) The only “drawback” (if it can even be considered one) is the lack of automatic time zone change. This is only useful if you travel frequently to different time zones throughout the year. If you travel occasionally, manual time setting is not a problem on any watch.

    9) If you’re looking for the best practical balance (and not just more features) in a square G-SHOCK — history, simplicity, durability, and the lowest possible price, while also buying a 2025 model — then this is the watch.

If you’re not interested in the red details inspired by the original 1983 model, everything above also applies to the DW-5600UE, at an even lower price.

I hope this helps at least one person looking for a square G-SHOCK.
