Charlotte was sitting in the only chair available. He was leaning with his back against a brick pillar, holding a pewter cup in one hand and a piece of plum cake in the other.

"When Jenkins and I realized how dangerous the situation we had gotten into was, we decided to go our separate ways."

He remained silent for a moment before mentioning Jenkins by name, a sign that he harbored deep feelings. Jenkins had been his friend since they were in school, and both men had worked for Moriarty, a very dangerous man. After years, they left Moriarty's employment together.

But Moriarty punished deserters with death. Jenkins had already lost his life. Mr. Finch, at least until now, remained safe. But for how much longer?
