The victim is the hero of our time. Being a victim bestows prestige, demands attention, promises and promotes recognition, activates a strong mechanism of identity, rights, self-worth. It immunizes one against any criticism, guarantees innocence beyond any reasonable doubt.
How could the victim be guilty, and even responsible for something? They didn't do; it was done to them. They do not act; they suffer. In the victim, lack and claim, weakness and entitlement, the desire to have and the desire to be are intertwined. We are not what we do, but what we have suffered, what we may lose, what has been taken from us.
However, the time has come to transcend this paralyzing paradigm and to redesign the terms of the subject's action in the world: a subject who is a guarantor of the future, not of the past.
