The confrontation with various ideas and concepts of subjectivity forms the framework of this volume. While this framework plays a significant role in the first two and last two texts, on the one hand addressing questions of poetic subjectivity (in the aesthetic dialogue between Martin Heidegger and Paul Celan; in the interpretation of Gottfried Benn's concept of phenotypes), and on the other hand exploring questions of philosophical understanding related to subjectivity (in Celan's problematic reference to Martin Buber's philosophy and subsequently to its relation to Heidegger's way of thinking).
However, the framework also encompasses the ambiguous meaning of a red thread, a help for the reader—academic or not—through these eleven texts, seven of which (nos. 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11) were written and designed for specific publications, while the remaining four (3, 4, 6, 9) serve as introductions or conclusions within publications aimed at a wider audience. They are to be understood and received as a cohesive unit.
