"The Sting of the Bee" is a novel that seems to combine elements of love, loss, and mystery. Readers who have read it report that it is a story full of emotion, with characters that kept them company and a plot that captivated them until the last page. It seems to be a book that leaves a strong impression and provokes thoughts about human relationships and the unpredictable twists of life.
The Barnes family is in serious trouble. The once profitable car dealership of the father, Dicky, is going from bad to worse due to the economic crisis in Ireland. However, he refuses to face the situation and spends his days in the woods.
His wife, Imelda, is selling her jewelry on eBay, while their teenage daughter, Cass, an excellent student until recently, seems determined to last until the university exams by drinking and staying out late every night. And finally, the neglected twelve-year-old PJ is plotting an escape from home.
What went wrong and how did everything fall apart? A frozen piece of pavement, a simple favor for a charming stranger, a bee trapped under a bridal veil – can a single moment of misfortune change the course of an entire life? And if the story is predetermined, is there still time to find a happy ending?

Elaine had golden hair, green eyes, a perfect body. The clothes she bought online always fit her perfectly, as if they were made with her in mind. Writing about Elaine in her diary, Cass used words like grace and style. She had what the French called je ne sais quoi.* Even when she was cutting her toenails, she looked like she was eating a peach. Whenever Cass went to Elaine's house, they would sit in her bedroom with the carousel lamp on and browse the Miss Universe (Ireland) website. Elaine was seriously considering entering the competition, not so much for the title but for the opportunities it might offer her. Last year's winner was now advertising some juices. Cass believed that Elaine surpassed all the candidates presented online. But it was tough. Each of the girls competing for the title of Miss Universe (Ireland), and then for the title of Miss Universe worldwide and the universe in general, had overcome some adversity.
