Description

Description

The Keychron K5 Max is an ultra-slim full-size (100%) mechanical keyboard with an aluminum body. It supports triple connectivity (2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C) with a 1000 Hz polling rate. It offers full programmability via QMK/VIA, a hot-swappable PCB for Low Profile Gateron switches, Double-Shot PBT keycaps, and an internal structure with IXPE acoustic foam for improved sound insulation.

Triple Connectivity & Polling Rate

The K5 Max features an advanced triple connectivity system for maximum flexibility. The 2.4 GHz mode ensures ultra-fast response with a 1000 Hz polling rate, ideal for low-latency gaming. At the same time, the Bluetooth 5.1 protocol allows simultaneous pairing with up to 3 devices, making it easy to switch between computer, tablet, and smartphone. Wired connection via USB Type-C port provides data stability and simultaneous battery charging.

Low-Profile Architecture & Construction

The keyboard’s structure is based on a reinforced aluminum chassis, achieving an extremely slim profile without sacrificing durability. It is equipped with the new Gateron Low Profile MX 2.0 mechanical switches, which are 31% thinner compared to conventional switches. This design drastically reduces the operating height, offering ergonomics and typing speed, while maintaining the precise mechanical feel.

QMK/VIA Programming

The open-source firmware QMK combined with the VIA platform provides complete control over the keyboard hardware. Through the Keychron Launcher application, the user can remap any key, create complex macros, and set system shortcuts. The settings are stored directly in the device's memory, ensuring functionality independent of the operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux).

Acoustic Insulation IXPE & Latex

The internal layout of the K5 Max has been optimized with the addition of specialized noise-dampening materials. Between the PCB and the plate, IXPE acoustic foam is inserted, which eliminates echo and metallic sounds. Additionally, the use of latex foam provides elastic support to the switches, improving the typing feel and creating a more solid and quiet acoustic result.

Hot-Swappable PCB

The keyboard circuit supports Hot-Swap technology, allowing the removal and installation of switches without the need for soldering. The sockets are exclusively designed for Gateron Low Profile and Keychron Low Profile mechanical switches. This feature enables the user to customize the tactile feedback (Linear, Tactile, Clicky) according to their preferences by replacing the switches in seconds.

Keycaps Double-Shot PBT & Stabilizers

The keycaps are made from thermoplastic polymer PBT using the Double-Shot method. This material offers excellent resistance to wear, shine, and finger oils compared to ABS. At the same time, the redesigned stabilizers are aligned with the level of the switches, minimizing wobble on large keys (Spacebar, Shift, Enter) and ensuring uniform actuation.

This review is about the switches: Gateron Brown

One of the best keyboards I have ever used.
-1 Star because I would prefer to have the illumination to pass though the letters (like Ligitech MX series) and not just light in the background.

I am happy with this keyboard. The keys are flat, which helps a lot if you have long nails so you don’t end up pressing extra keys.
The lights are not too much, just subtle enough. Sounds is great - not too loud neither.

Yes, the keys are not backlit, but who looks at the keyboard when typing and not the screen (usually you know where the keys are located, or at least that’s me).

Battery lasts pretty long even with the RGB lights on.

If you want a mechanical keyboard but you don’t want the big chunky keys that come with it, then this is a great option.

Low profile keyboard, with immediate response, nice feel on the keys and long battery life, comfortable with effortless typing. It can be used wirelessly and with a cable. Cons: It suits users with medium and small hands more. The keys are not backlit, the lighting comes from behind. Overall, a high-quality keyboard, which is evident from its construction and materials.

Look, because I like to be realistic.
It's good that you can change the buttons.
The low profile is very good.
I like the switch on the back for cable/bluetooth etc.

Why aren't the letters illuminated, bro?
We have RGB background but not the letters?
If you want to write code at night, get ready for glasses.
It's a HUGE deal breaker, especially at night if you have the lights off.
One more thing. For a 120€ keyboard, man, I think they could have included a Palm Rest because the low profile is nice but without a palm rest it's not doable.
Overall, you get a keyboard that only works as long as you have light in the room.
Finally, if you need a 120€ RGB keyboard just to go to the office in the morning... there are better options.
2/5 DRY for the key lighting. It noticeably overshadows all its advantages. You look at it and think, @@ back to 1990, time for bed soon and stuff like that. Find something else

Quality keyboard with a good feel of the keys. I received it about a month ago with brown switches. Personally, I think that heavier switches like the mint ones would suit me better.
Very useful is the connection with multiple Bluetooth and RF devices.

The only negative so far is the length of the keyboard, which should be a bit longer (1-1.5 cm) so that there is more space between the column of keys that include the arrows, ins, del, pgup, pgdn, etc., and the rest of the keys, but also to have more space between the keys in general.

The most comfortable keyboard I have ever had. The keys are so soft that you almost don't feel them. Incredible feeling and maximization of productivity. It is truly one of the top in its category. I would like all variants to support universal VIA customization but ok, its own application is also good.

This is the Keychron K5 Max, a full-size mechanical hot-swappable keyboard, with tactile switches and durable PBT keycaps. Both the switches and its profile are very low, making it ideal for office work. Aluminum top body that makes it very sturdy and battery life up to 2 weeks. Connection via Type C, Bluetooth 5.1 for iOS, Android, and PC, and of course with 2.4GHz via USB dongle, and you can easily switch connections from the switch on the back. Therefore, you can have it connected to 3 devices. Through the software, you can customize the function of each key individually, create macros, shortcuts, and adjust the RGB patterns. Overall, a very powerful keyboard, especially for office work; in gaming, it may not suit you, but it might also work for you. It costs a bit more, and what I would have liked is a knob for volume adjustment and to have the RGB at the bottom or somehow else to illuminate more intensely, but overall, a very decent keyboard, especially for productivity.
