Description

Description

The Alltest Rapid Strep A Test is a rapid test used for the qualitative assessment of Group A hemolytic streptococcus antigens from throat swab samples.

Group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus is a major cause of upper respiratory tract infections, such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and scarlet fever.

Timely diagnosis and treatment of Group A hemolytic streptococcal pharyngitis has been shown to reduce the severity of symptoms and further complications, such as rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis.

Antibodies specific to strep A antigens are located on the test line area. During the test, the processed sample migrates along the membrane and any antigens from the swab sample are captured by the Strep A antibodies, which are attached to indicator particles. The antigen–antibody–particle complex forms a colored line in the test line area.

Benefits

  • Helps diagnose upper respiratory infections including scarlet fever, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis.
  • Fast and reliable results.
  • Easy and simple procedure.
  • Clear and legible results.
  • Easy sample collection.

What are streptococci?

The genus Streptococcus is a diverse collection of gram-positive bacteria, most species are facultative anaerobes and some grow only in an atmosphere enriched with carbon dioxide (capnophilic growth). The most important species of group A streptococci is Streptococcus pyogenes, which causes a variety of pyogenic and non-pyogenic diseases. Although streptococcus is part of the normal flora of the body, it can cause life-threatening infections when found in sites where it is not normally detected. Group A streptococcus is transmitted through close contact with an infected person either via droplets (coughing) or through a wound.
