In this book, the author captures everything he recorded through his journalistic reports in the disintegrating Yugoslavia from the early 1990s. As a witness to incredible barbarity, he spoke with most of the protagonists of the drama, documenting the disintegration of a country, the bloody wars, and the creation of new states.

Key figures from those developments, such as Gligorov, Rugova, Thaci, Mesic, Kucan, Ahmeti, Solana, Kostunica, Djindjic, and others, reveal behind-the-scenes information about Greek involvement in the overthrow of Milosevic, the presence and actions of Greek paramilitaries in Bosnia, as well as testimonies from the few civilian Bosnian Muslims who survived the Srebrenica massacre and other interesting aspects of the Yugoslav issue.

Many in Greece, swept away by their own nationalism and the hysteria surrounding the Macedonian issue, or in complete ignorance, imagined that a Greek-Serbian alliance could be formed based on a common religion, marked by the era's slogan "Greece - Serbia - Orthodoxy." On this basis, many of the killers in the Yugoslav drama became heroes in Greece.

They were glorified by the majority of Greek politicians, heroized by most media outlets, and were provided with facilities for all kinds of transactions. This uncritical glorification also extended to the Greek paramilitary "volunteers" who found themselves in Bosnia.

For the true dimensions of this phenomenon, several pieces of information come to light for the first time with this book. As the author notably states in the introduction: "Yugoslavia disintegrated because many of the people who found themselves in key positions during the critical period after Tito's death played the card of extreme nationalism without any hesitation. Ethnic disputes preexisted and created fertile ground for the rhetoric of nationalisms. And then came the weapons, the battles, the dead...

Stavros Jimma was born in Souli, Thesprotia, in 1954 and studied Economics at the University of Macedonia (A.B.S.Θ). He works as a journalist for KATHIMERINI and the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA). In the past, he worked for the newspapers "Rizospastis," "TA NEA," "TO PONTIKI," and for Swedish Radio.

This is the author's second book - the first is titled "In the Constellation of Nationalism" (Epikentro Publications) and addresses the behind-the-scenes of Greek-Albanian relations in the post-Hoxha era. He has been awarded the "Promoting Journalism" award from the Botsis Foundation and the National Reconciliation Foundation of Albania for reports concerning the bloody feuds in northern Albania. He is married and has two daughters.
