Description

While strolling in Hydra, a Greek-American on vacation meets an elderly Greek sitting on a rock, slowly sipping his ouzo and lazily gazing at the sun setting over the sea.

The American notices that there are neglected olive trees on the hills behind the old man, with the olives simply falling and lying here and there on the ground. He asks him to whom the trees belong. "They are mine," the Greek replies.

"Don't you collect the olives?" asks the American. "I cut a few when I need them," says the old man. "But don't you understand that if you prune the trees and collect the olives on time, you could sell them? In America, everyone goes crazy for virgin olive oil and would pay a high price to have it."

"What would I do with the money?" asks the old Greek. "Well, you could buy a big house and hire servants to do all the work for you."

"And then what would I do?" "You could do whatever you want!" "So, I would just sit outside and drink ouzo at sunset?"
