What do you get for the money you spend? This book takes you on a journey (and I tried very hard to make the journey enjoyable) not only into the world of statistics but also into strange and beautiful things that exist in the world and in my mind. It is filled with silly examples, crude jokes, and vulgarities. However, in addition to all this, I tried (reluctantly, I admit) to include academic content. It contains everything I know (actually more than I know) about statistics.

Anything you might need to know at some point: I want this book to be worth its price, and for that reason, it guides you from complete ignorance (Chapter 1 covers the basics of research) to becoming an expert in multilevel linear models (Chapter 21). Of course, no book contains everything; however, I believe I have made a good effort. After all, it is so large and heavy that it can also be used to strengthen your biceps.

Funny faces: You will notice that the book is filled with "characters," some of whom are of my own invention. You will learn more about the pedagogical usefulness of these "characters" in the next section.

Files: On the accompanying website of the book, there are about 132 files related to it. This is not unusual for statistics books, but in my files, there is more information than in others. I leave it to your judgment whether this is a good thing.

The story of my life: Each chapter ends with a chronological account of a part of my life. Does this help you learn statistics? Probably not, but it allows you to relax a bit between chapters.

Useful tips for SPSS: SPSS does strange things. So in each chapter, you will find embedded tips, hints, and warnings about the pitfalls of using SPSS.

Self-assessment exercises: Since most students despise tests, I thought the best way for the book to fail commercially would be to have such exercises in every chapter. These consist of questions that help you assess what you've learned in the specific chapter, and there are exercises that ask you to refer back to something you learned in a previous chapter and apply it in a new context. All answers are available on the accompanying website, allowing you to check your progress yourself.

Electronic supplementary material: On the accompanying website, you will find an absurdly large amount of additional material that no one reads, but it is described in a related section so you know what to ignore.

Digital stimulation: For heaven's sake, I do not mean the digital stimulation I mentioned earlier, but brain stimulation. Specifically, on the accompanying website, there are many resources that are accessible and compatible with new-generation tablets and smartphones, so that if you find the movie you are watching in the cinema boring, you can alternatively read about the wonderful world of heteroscedasticity.

How to draft the results report of your statistical analysis: Each chapter includes instructions on how to draft the results report of your statistical analysis. The way of drafting varies slightly depending on the subject matter; however, my guidelines can guide you.

Glossary: Writing the glossary was a particularly painful process, which sucked all the gray matter from my brain like a vacuum cleaner through my ear. If you come to my house, you will find it in the vacuum cleaner's bin.

Real-world data: Students like to work with real-life data. The problem is that sometimes this data is boring. Nevertheless, exclusively for you, I painstakingly searched for studies with exciting topics (at least according to my opinion). Then I chased the researchers of these studies until they provided me with their data. Therefore, each chapter has a real research example.
