Product description
The Damasco stainless steel knives are crafted according to the art of knife making, which has been cultivated for 25 generations by the masters of KASUMI. The blades are made from high-carbon stainless steel VG-10, hardened to a Rockwell hardness of C59-60. Both sides of the blade are adorned with a traditional finish typical of Damasco stainless steel, achieved through hot forging and folding 32 layers of steel into the blade. Each Damasco stainless steel knife from KASUMI is a unique piece of traditional art. Equipped with a very comfortable handle made from durable pakkawood, this exceptionally sharp knife is an excellent tool for use in the kitchen. KASUMI knives are produced in the city of Seki, located in central Japan, known for manufacturing the highest quality knives. The tradition of knife making, and previously swords, dates back to the 13th century, when the famous master Motoshige moved to Seki, where he produced the highest quality swords sought after throughout Japan. This area was ideal due to the suitable soil quality for hardening the blades, access to charcoal, clean water, and proximity to two rivers. The unique method of blade hardening ensures exceptional quality and high aesthetic value, making swords from Seki the favorite swords of samurai. The masterful art passed down from generation to generation is still cultivated, and KASUMI knives can undoubtedly be characterized as the specialty of SEKI.
