The changes started from the head of the lure, which is now narrower and slimmer to aid in side-to-side movement. The central part of the body has been tapered to improve casting distance.

The thinner design of the Samurai R lure has reduced water resistance and improved the lure's response to rod strikes, whether with High Pitch retrieval or Slow Pitch jerks, expanding the action range of the lure.

Daiwa also examined the balance of the lure, achieving greater casting distance compared to the older model.
