Two triggers with pressure points, two vibration motors, and an 8-directional D-pad control your actions. The D-pad will be very familiar to those who have PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, with the classic X, O, triangle, and square buttons remaining unchanged.

Significant improvements have been made to the R1 and L1 buttons, as well as the R2 and L2 analog triggers, providing a more ergonomic appearance. The sticks have also been redesigned to prevent finger slip from the rubber grip.

The Start and Select buttons have been removed for the first time from a PlayStation controller, replacing them with the Options buttons (which are intended to take over the Start and Select functions) and Share. The PlayStation (Home) button remains almost unchanged.

A very important area of the new DOUBLESHOCK 4 is the new LED light, which will serve multiple roles. The light will change colors to better indicate the connection between the player and the character they control in the game: for example, in a cooperative title, the character dressed in red will be controlled by the gamepad whose light will be red.

Additionally, in conjunction with the SIXAXIS features (motion sensors), this light will assist in effectively detecting spatial positioning. The grips and curves have been designed to fit more comfortably in your hands. The controller features a built-in speaker and a stereo headphone jack.
