The year is 1959, and the anticipation of the remarkable 1960, which ushered in a lively decade, brought back memories of events that History recorded as momentous, with the help of scientists, historians, or coffeehouse orators who always circulate among us, like an antidote to boredom. Yet, perhaps we too carry a similar unbearable seriousness or lightness, even if we haven't realized it, since no one pointed it out to us in time… Rodostami, in any case, gathered an interesting variety of doubles of ourselves. The Gargara sisters, Philothei and Magiopoula, first train their innocence in the family arena and then classify truths and illusions with heroic and comical vigor. The two daughters of the wrestler Heracles Gargara thus became the reason for writing a work of stormy situations—weather-related, psychological, and otherwise.
The author claims that these are personas related to him in their pursuit of escape to an Athens ready to reward them with secrets of monstrous yet romantic refrains, which praised every oxymoronic expectation or disappointment. And they, trusting and desperate, engaged in the sport of Conquest, surrendered to the whims of a derailed time. As for the author’s obsession with the years 1959 and 1960, this, according to rumors and expert commentary, is due to the psychotic awkwardness of coming of age he suffered—and which, apparently, he never overcame.

And when we say athletic, we mean at a level of uniqueness, because Heracles, like his namesake demigod, proved from a very young age that he was worthy of the mythical.
Although as an infant he did not strangle 'by hand' two venomous snakes like the other Heracles, his muscular strength was mainly evident in the wrestling matches of the festivals. As he spread the word, even as a teenager, he defeated seasoned wrestlers, some with a rich criminal record, in three Assumption Day festivals in Roumeli and seven of Prophet Elias in Macedonia."
Giannis Xanthoulis was born in 1947 in Alexandroupoli to refugee parents. He studied journalism and design and has been working as a journalist and columnist since 1969. He has written children's books, satirical texts, and over thirty plays that have been presented in Greece. His first novel was published in 1981, followed by many others, some of which have been adapted for cinema and television. His works have been translated into many languages.
