In Everdell Duo, you either compete against your opponent or play cooperatively with another player to earn the most points. You achieve this by placing workers to gather resources, and then using those resources to play cards openly in front of you, creating your own city in the forest. Cards can be played either from your hand or from the area open on the board called the "lake." However, only cards that touch the sun or moon symbol can be played from the lake, and players move these symbols each time they perform an action. Therefore, planning and timing the cards you play is critical.
In each game, you try to achieve various events, whose requirements differ from game to game, making you seek out more significant cards and combinations. The game lasts four seasons, and then players add up their points to determine the winner. If you are playing cooperatively, check the requirements of the chapter you are playing to see if you won.
