In "The Tale Without a Name," Penelope Delta invites us on an exploratory journey into a kingdom dominated by decay and corruption – where the "Moiralaters" reside. Her aim is to demonstrate the arduous collective path from decline to recovery. That is, with the emergence of the new leader, the prince, who takes the reins in his hands, the wings of the national vision will bring happiness robustly, in place of misfortune.
"The Tale Without a Name," positioned between Myth and History, will be related to major political events of its time: the defeat of 1897 and the Goudi movement (1909). However, alongside everything else, it was also a book for children, committed to the demotic movement.
The study by Ioanna Petropoulou seeks to interpret the symbols, the allegories, and the various intertextual references of the work. It aims to decode the historical stratification, the structural elements of the narrative. It highlights the rough spiritual roots and the way the author infuses her work with the ethnoromantic ideals of Drakoumis.
The new reading provides access to the highly confidential papers of Delta and Drakoumis. It tracks Delta's entry into the realm of pain, tracing the slow, torturous process through which she transformed into a writer. Experiencing multiple imprisonments and exclusions, the author uses "invisible" verbal signs to communicate with her beloved Iona. And without stating so, amid the rising national fervor of the time, she transforms the narrative of the "death of the brave man," Paul Melas, into a tale.
