Acts as an antispasmodic, choleretic, antidiarrheal, and muscle relaxant. The infusion of fresh leaves provides an excellent antispasmodic tea, without the drawbacks of menthol. It has a positive effect on the liver and combats diarrhea, especially muscle cramps. It is carminative and helps with gastric pain, intestinal pain, and toothaches. It also acts against nervous vomiting, dizziness, and migraines. It pairs well with peppermint, lemon balm, and anise as a flu remedy.
The herb infusion is useful for washing purulent wounds. The herb poultice helps with abscesses, boils, and bruises. Gargling provides relief for conditions of the nasopharynx, cough, and generally in asthmatic and flu-like situations. Chewing fresh leaves acts as an antiemetic and helps eliminate the smell of garlic.
Usage: Add a tablespoon to a cup of boiling water and let it steep covered for 10-15 minutes. Strain and drink 2-3 times a day after meals. If desired, sweeten with honey. For external use, gargles, compresses, and baths use a more concentrated tea.
