Arcangelo Corelli (1653 - 1713) was a violinist and conductor. Although his body of work is relatively small, he was a great composer with a reputation that transcended Italian borders. Despite his fame, he was a humble artist with self-doubt. The 12 Concerti grossi op. VI are originally for 2 solo flutes, one solo cello, and 2 violins, viola, and bass (chamber). This edition of the popular Concerto no. 8 can be played as a trio, as well as for a seven-part flute choir. The last movement, the famous pastorale, is also in the original ad libitum, meaning it can be performed on occasions other than Christmas. The level of difficulty is basic moderate.
