Premium Build Quality, Effective Performance

The Viltrox AF 135mm f/1.8 LAB Z lens for Nikon Z-mount is a prime telephoto lens favored by many photographers for portraits due to its compression level, exceptional sharpness, and autofocus performance. It utilizes a VCM focusing motor that allows the lens to operate quickly and quietly for smooth studio sessions. The bright maximum aperture of f/1.8 is ideal for working in low-light scenarios, allowing the user to explore portraiture in outdoor settings while experiencing beautiful bokeh. The lens also features two Fn buttons, ensuring that your favorite custom settings are easily accessible. Additionally, the lens is protected by a multi-layer nano-coating that prevents damage from water, dust, and pollution.

Minimized Focus Breathing, Fast AF Performance

  • Minimized focus shift allows for smoother video transitions.
  • Breath reduction contributes to more stable framing.
  • The drive autofocus performance is provided by Viltrox's patented HyperVCM motor, which delivers 150% faster focusing than traditional STM motors.

Exceptional Optical Design

  • Two high refractive index lenses and four extra-low dispersion lenses are used throughout the lens' optical construction, which features a total of fourteen elements in nine groups for effective distortion reduction and minimized chromatic aberration. This design enhances image quality and contrast, contributing to photographs with accurate color reproduction.
  • Its minimum focusing distance of 2.4' enables the capture of detailed, close-up images.
  • The eleven-blade diaphragm and a maximum aperture of f/1.8 help produce creamy and circular bokeh, even in low light.

Proven Durability

  • The advanced dust and moisture-resistant design helps protect the AF 135mm f/1.8 LAB Z from any water droplets or dust that could negatively affect its internal elements.
  • The front element of the lens features a water-repellent and stain-resistant coating to repel liquids and fingerprints.
  • The magnesium-aluminum alloy construction of the lens further enhances its reliability and ensures that minor impacts will not compromise its performance.

Additional Lens Benefits

  • Customizable Fn buttons, a multifunction ring, and a focus limiter are all present on the lens barrel, providing users with excellent control over their settings.
  • USB-C port for quick and easy firmware updates.
  • 92 mm filter thread for wide compatibility with lens accessories.

I have been a photographer for 7 years and I systematically invest in my equipment. Not in the most expensive pieces, but in the most value-for-money and only Nikon. When I tried Nikon's Plena (135mm 1.8) I fell in love with it.

Since then, I was looking for an alternative that would cost less and I found it in Viltrox. The reviews everywhere were 5/5 and everyone said it is comparable to the respective Sony and Nikon lenses.

I thought, it can't be, there must be something negative and indeed there is: THE WEIGHT. 300g heavier than the Nikon is a lot, but the €1600 price difference between them was also a lot.

I bought it for one purpose: To complement Nikon's 85mm, which remains the main telephoto portrait lens due to its weight, quality, and flexibility.

In the first jobs with it, I realized that this lens is not just to complement the 85mm but to replace the 70-200.

Its sharpness is at a very high level. The focusing is fast.
However, the bottleneck here is the camera. If you have a Z6ii/z5 or older, there is an issue with the focusing system, which is inherently sluggish. This lens should be used on z5ii/z6iii/z8/z9, which have new processors and can easily and accurately detect the eye.

The bokeh... oh my GOD... On another level. Creamy... It's love.

    POSITIVES:
    - 82mm filter like most good lenses (24-70, 70-200)
    - Sharpness
    - Build quality
    NEGATIVES
    - Weight

    Who is it for:
    - For professionals who want something extra
    - For those who already have 70-200 and 85mm lenses and want something bright for more telephoto situations
    - For those who have €1000 and want to invest in good glass for the coming years
    - For those who shoot a lot of night events
    - For those who want to add the 135mm as a prime lens to their repertoire after the trinity 35/50/85

    Who it is NOT for:
    - For those just starting out. It's not a basic lens. It's a luxury
    - For those who don't have the time/patience/creativity to learn a new focal length and how it will benefit their work
