Description

"Mountains have always been in my heart, but I realized that war means to embroider my heart on the mountains.

There can be no war without fear.

War is not life in a rose garden, but an effort to continue life amidst gunpowder and blood."

The book "I EMBROIDERED MY HEART ON THE MOUNTAINS. Diary of a Kurdish Guerrilla Woman, 1995-1997" by Gurbetelli Ersöz is a chronicle of the struggle for an independent Kurdistan and at the same time an on-the-ground testimony in response to the misinformation by the Turkish state and its allies.

Gurbet, the Exiled Girl, narrates battles, writes poems, engages in reflections and self-criticism. Writing the diary is for her, on one hand, a political and personal act, allowing her to record raw events of a story that will never be officially published, and, on the other hand, an opportunity to express her dreams, beliefs, to articulate her analyses and doubts.

Gurbet's Diary also allows us to follow the formation of a fighter, to ascertain and explore the contingencies and contradictions of armed struggle, and, above all, to accompany the guerrilla women and forge their role in such a context.

The construction of an in situ memory archive is essential for us to map and accompany political struggles.
