The author wants to convey the message that the language called upon today to serve our entire range of activities is not the simple Demotic of everyday life, as we know it through literature, poetry, and spoken language, but something broader: Only in this "broader" can the sciences, arts, and all branches of human activity fit. And this "broader" is expressed only by the term "Modern Greek", as it has officially been accepted, and not the simple Demotic. It is the modern form of our uninterrupted language. We gain if we constantly enrich this breadth of Modern Greek with linguistic elements of unparalleled precision and elegance from the inexhaustible linguistic sources of our ancestors. The author's concern is the preservation and exploitation of our precious national heritage. He wants to prevent Greeks and Greek learners from being disconnected - whether unintentionally or willingly (the latter is worse) - from the umbilical cord of our historical linguistic continuity. They should not hesitate to use words and phrases from ancient, Byzantine, and modern literary language. Thus, liberated, they will feel free from pseudo-dilemmas like "what is and what is not suitable for use", but also with aesthetic elegance, they will beautify their speech. Let them keep in mind the very apt observation of Chr. Giannaras that "the living survival and continuity of a historical language is impossible if later idioms do not constantly draw from earlier ones".
