FOREWORD

It was early 2006 when I began publishing my mathematical inquiries in the daily newspaper “Grammi” of Kozani. At that time, as a math school advisor, I had the opportunity to collaborate with many worthy colleagues in mathematics and other fields from the entire area of Western Macedonia. Finally, it was then that we started as a local mathematical community to work on the idea of organizing the 24th Panhellenic Mathematical Conference of the Hellenic Mathematical Society.

The “Mathematical Column” was a reading that became associated with an entire page of “Grammi” and appeared to the reader every Wednesday. For me, it had become intertwined with my daily life because every week I had to complete four pages with various ideas that I believed would interest anyone engaged in mathematics. This effort “endured” until September 2013, when the newspaper “Grammi” ceased to be published in print form and continued its presence in digital format. With this cessation, the “Mathematical Column” completed eight years of continuous presence in the local mathematical community, reaching approximately 1500 pages.

The structure of the “Mathematical Column” features a section dedicated to the history of Ancient Mathematics and another that contains exercises and problems in various areas of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and other branches of mathematics. In this second part, many colleagues participated over time, to whom I extend my thanks.

Alongside the hosting by the newspaper “Grammi,” the “Mathematical Column” was hosted in digital form on the website of the EMY Kozani Branch and later on the website “Oper Edie Deixai” of colleagues Nikos Zantaridis and Giannis Aplakidis. Today, it is warmly hosted by the website “for the love of mathematics” of Panagiotis Chronopoulos, known to us as “Parmenides.”

If I were to add something further to outline this effort, it is that along the way, what many refer to as “new technology” or others as “digital support” or even “software use” has been “captured.” The period of the presence of the “Mathematical Column” overlaps with the time when schools “invade” with the use of softwares, such as CabriII, Cabri3D, Sketchpad, FonctionProbe, Geogebra, and various others. This new environment and its evolutionary path are reflected in the “Mathematical Column” as well as the overall evolution of the capabilities of electronic computers.

Regarding any bibliographic references, these are noted each time in the specific locations of the text and not in a comprehensive table at the end of the book.

Finally, the overall printed form was undertaken by beloved colleagues Nikos Zantaridis and Kostas Tilegraphos, to whom I sincerely thank.
