Description

Foreword by Pete Townshend. Tom Wright met Pete Townshend at Ealing Art School in the early '60s. He became the official photographer and manager of the band The Who from 1967 in the USA, also managing the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, where the rock opera Tommy premiered. He was much more than just a band photographer; he was a friend and photographed them until their last tour in 1991. His extensive record collection and musical influences had a significant impact on the band in their early years. Their Generation covers The Who's early tours in North America, an extremely creative period with explosive performances both on and off stage, during the time of the American hit 'I Can See for Miles' and many more. Through the fantastic photographs, many of which have never been seen before, we see the band behind the scenes, on stage, on tour, in rehearsals, relaxed, in the studio, at home. The photographs are accompanied by extensive captions providing information about the era, the people, and the places. In addition to The Who, Tom Wright toured with the Rolling Stones, the Faces, the James Gang, J. D. Elvis Costello, the Eagles, and many others, capturing their performances and life on the road.
