The diverse relationships of the Eastern Roman Empire with the world of Islam, known to the academic community as "Arabian-Byzantine relations," have long occupied scholars in both of these fields, both in the West and in Arabia. Notably, significant studies have been conducted, demonstrating the magnitude of this intersection, possibly stemming from a mutual influence, and this divergence primarily due to the religious differences of both.
Despite the involvement of numerous researchers in these areas, very few have managed to study them in depth and adequately, as this requires a convergence of data. Firstly, specializing in both the Byzantine and Islamic worlds, and secondly, possessing an excellent knowledge of the languages of their main sources, namely Roman and Greek in their various versions, as well as Arabic, especially its more mature form as it is represented in the Quran.
Indeed, as the issue stands, very few can cumulatively meet these criteria. Among these few, the distinguished colleague, Associate Professor Markos Miottos, stands out prominently, who has practically demonstrated over the past four decades his deep and robust expertise in the aforementioned criteria. Thus, his scholarly dissertations, the result of much labor and scientific rigor, provide significant contributions to the field of Arabian-Byzantine relations and serve as a model of work for future generations.
