The sixth book in the medieval mystery series "The Cases of the Royal Judge Oldrich of Chlum" is titled "Murder in the Colonnade". Three detective stories set in the mid-13th century take us back to the youthful years of Oldrich of Chlum, shedding light on events that precede the novels in the series.
In the first story, "Murder in the Colonnade," Oldrich inadvertently becomes a witness to a mysterious murder while studying in Magdeburg. The unknown perpetrator threatens his life, and his only hope for salvation is to uncover the truth.
In the second story, "Carnival Disguises," the events unfold during Oldrich's initial arrival at Prague Castle. He is assisted by the squire Otto of Zastrižli, who helps him escape from a difficult situation. Thanks to his abilities, Oldrich is appointed royal procurator.
In the third story, "The Fateful Tournament," the action takes place near the Bezděz castle, where Oldrich is called upon to solve a complicated power dispute among the most powerful aristocratic families of Northern Bohemia. He uncovers a dark murder and, in a bloody struggle, wins the heart of Ludmila of Vartenberk, his future wife.
