The history of Britain is deeply rooted – and much of its precious past is hidden beneath our feet. Every day, new discoveries are revealed not by expert archaeologists but by amateur enthusiasts. With shovels and maps, these metal detectors, beachcombers, and field walkers explore the surface of the earth. What they find may seem insignificant at first glance: shards of pottery, metal coins, jewelry. However, from these pieces emerge stories of how our ancestors lived, traded, ate, played, fought – and died.
