If you have a new-generation processor, especially one that spikes even while idle on the desktop, consider tweaking the fans to delay starting the cooling so they don’t drive you crazy.
    DISCLAIMER: Before you jump down my throat about the negative part, I just want to say that even the old PCs we had weren’t this noisy. Objectively, as technology advances, this kind of downside should theoretically get better. Personally, it doesn’t bother me that much because I have my own space, so I don’t disturb anyone. But if you live with siblings, a wife, kids, or family, it’s worth keeping in mind.
