Who Elvis and who Keith Richards, Lemmy is the king of Rock & Roll. No one even comes close to him. – Dave Grohl
He was my hero. He was freaking awesome, a good friend. I already miss him. I will never forget him. – Ozzy Osbourne
“We are Motörhead and we play rock and roll.” This simple statement, spoken with the characteristic raspy voice of Lemmy Kilmister at a deafening volume of 130 decibels (as much as a jet taking off or a gunshot at close range), served as the most fitting introduction to the stormy, hardcore, relentless boogie of Motörhead at countless of their legendary concerts.
Lemmy's figure with the Rickenbacker bass hanging on his shoulder resembled a World War II soldier with his machine gun and was a particularly terrifying but truly beautiful and unforgettable image. Something between Christ and an Apocalypse cowboy, loaded with whiskey. And also, he wasn't joking. A few seconds after the above threatening proclamation, the band unleashed an unstoppable, seismic repertoire of exactly that: Rock and roll. A hellish sonic torrent.
