Mozart perfected the form of the modern piano concerto, which from around 1750 begins to show its kinship with the sonata form, in his 21 concertos for piano soloist and orchestra. The Concerto in D minor K.466 is one of the few concertos that remained in the concerto repertoire in the years after Mozart's death. After the revival of the other concertos, it remained the most popular of all Mozart's works in this genre, and almost every pianist has studied or performed this work in concert.
