The Ares Games The Battle of Five Armies board game is a standalone strategy game for two players, based on the rules of War of the Ring by the same designers. The rules have been adapted to a tactical level to recreate a smaller battle rather than an entire war. Its story is based on the climax of the novel The Hobbit, as the armies of the Free Peoples face the forces of Bolg.
The game board depicts the eastern and southern reaches of the Lonely Mountain and the surrounding valley, while the plastic miniatures represent troops, heroes, and monsters.
