The pilot who is lost in the desert (just like Saint-Exupéry after his crash in the Sahara) wakes up one morning in front of a small blonde boy. "Please," the boy tells him, "draw me a sheep." And the pilot realizes that when certain events in life are too difficult to understand, the only thing left to do is to surrender to them and accept their mysteries. Thus begins one of the most beautiful stories and fairy tales about the important things in life.
For children, the story of the little prince who came from an asteroid to visit Earth is irresistible. For adults, it is an excellent reflection on the human condition.
The Little Prince first appeared in America in 1943, at a time when the author was in exile, and since then it has been translated into more than 160 languages, becoming a colossal milestone in world literature.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900–1944), French writer and pilot. Born into a Catholic and aristocratic family, he became an orphan at just four years old. At 21, he obtained a pilot's license and began working for various airlines, flying in Africa and South America. A passionate reader (even at the controls of his plane!), he also dedicated himself to writing, publishing literature and travel texts, enjoying successes. After the invasion of France in 1940, he chose to fight alongside the Allies, carrying out missions over the Mediterranean Sea. He disappeared during a reconnaissance flight on July 31, 1944, which made the author of The Little Prince a hero of France.
Novels: Night Flight (1931), Wind, Sand and Stars (1939), Flight to Arras (1942).
"The Little Prince will illuminate children by indirectly projecting the bouquet of his rays. He will touch them in a place that is not the mind and will shine there until the time comes for them to understand."
