The study in this book focuses on the four "Great Byzantine Historians of the Fall" of the City of Constantinople (Second Rome/Byzantium) from the Ottoman Turks in 1453 - Michael Doukas, George Sphrantzes, (Michael) Kritoboulos in December, and Laonikos Chalkokondylis - as well as the corresponding Ottoman sources that mention it in any way.
The method followed by all of them in describing the Fall of the City of Byzantium, the Metropolitan of the State - Constantinople (people, events, language, tone, purpose of writing), as well as their differing political-ideological beliefs regarding this world-changing event of the Fall itself, but also in terms of the generally formed historical, cultural, and geopolitical reality before, during, and after it, is presented.
Additionally, a comparative stylistic and linguistic analysis of their works is conducted, and a brief presentation of the most important Ottoman sources on the Fall, brought to light by contemporary international research, is considered necessary.
