In 1935, in a spa town in central Greece, a doctor discovers that the baths are contaminated and dangerous. He suggests to the company that operates them that they should be repaired, but the mayor, who is also his cousin, refuses to do so, partly because it would be very expensive and partly because if the news got out, tourists would stop coming. Thus, a conflict begins between the two, and at the same time, a campaign is launched to turn public opinion against the doctor.
