The Pygocentrus nattereri, also known as the Red-Bellied Piranha, is an impressive and well-known freshwater predatory fish from South America. At a size of 2 centimeters, this is a juvenile specimen that has not yet developed the intense red coloration on the belly, characteristic of adults.
Despite its small size, it requires immediate care in a suitable environment, as it grows quickly and can reach up to 25–30 centimeters. It needs a spacious aquarium, good filtration, and a calm environment, with a temperature of 24–28°C and pH 6.0–7.5.
The Pygocentrus nattereri is a species that should only be kept by experienced aquarists, as it requires special attention to diet, tank size, and compatibility with other fish.
