This year's series of talks, organized once again in February by Porphyra Publications at the Theocharakis Foundation, focuses on the relationship between a narcissistic parent and child. The psychologist, author, and professor at Panteion University, Fotini Tsalikoglou, is responsible for the current event and for addressing a topic with many ramifications that, unfortunately, remains ever relevant.
The occasion for these meetings is the Greek edition of the best-selling book by researcher, psychologist, and family counselor Karyl Mc Bride, "Will I Ever Be Good Enough? Healing the Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers."
In her more than thirty years as a therapist, Mc Bride has found that narcissism—a personality disorder that goes beyond simple selfishness and vanity—is one of the main causes of family problems. According to the expert, the narcissist demands that all the spotlight be on them. They often overestimate their abilities, belittling everyone around them—even their own child. The dependent relationship that develops, the toxic love, and the manipulation have very serious consequences for the development and, ultimately, the happiness of the daughter: constant emotional frustration, guilt, disruption of peace, distortion of expectations, and more.
The series of talks will shed light on all aspects of the narcissist-mother and daughter relationship, in an effort to recognize and resolve this highly problematic relationship pattern.
