This book was first published in mimeographed form in 1973, mainly to serve the teaching needs of the School of Modern Greek Language at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

After being tested for nine years at the school, it was printed for the first time in 1982. Since then, it has been republished many times in thousands of copies with numerous corrections, improvements, and changes.

It includes 38 lessons with corresponding exercises, grammar, and a complete vocabulary in Greek, English, and Russian. For many years, it has been used for teaching the Greek language in many university and other language teaching centers around the world.
