The Romance of the Rose by Guillaume de Lorris is a rhythmic medieval lyrical epic. Although written eight hundred years ago, in the early 13th century, it has not yet been translated into the Greek language, despite being one of the three most emblematic poetic works of the Middle Ages, alongside Dante's Divine Comedy and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
The work is a Hymn to Woman, and within it is transformed the entire chivalric romantic ideal of female existence, as the man's worship of woman is fully expressed, and she is deified.
The courteous standard of behavior and emotionality of man, the delicate and gentle care of woman, as well as refined love reach their pinnacle.
Tasos Makratos, the scholar and translator of the work, introduces us to the atmosphere of the medieval era and its romantic mentality, as he poetically renders the work, managing to preserve the beauty and musicality of the medieval text.
