Basic Features
HPL Construction & Dreadnought Acoustic Design
The Martin DX Johnny Cash LH uses the traditional proportions of a Dreadnought 14-Fret body, providing ample internal air volume for powerful acoustic projection and full bass frequencies. The use of Jett Black HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) for the top, back, and sides makes the instrument exceptionally resistant to scratches, impacts, and extreme changes in temperature and humidity. Its tonal performance remains consistent, with clear note separation, delivering a focused acoustic sound with a fast response that’s suitable for both dynamic strumming and flatpicking techniques.
Bracing Architecture & Mortise-and-Tenon Joint
Inside the instrument, a 5/16" (7.94 mm) Non-Scalloped X-Brace system made of solid Sitka spruce is specifically adapted to the geometry and mechanical stresses of the strings in a left-handed configuration. The non-scalloped structure provides increased structural stiffness to the top, balancing vibrations and ensuring even frequency response without unwanted resonances. The neck is securely joined to the body at the 14th fret using a Mortise & Tenon Neck Joint, creating a rigid connection for seamless transfer of vibrations throughout the instrument.
Fishman MX Electronic Preamp System
Amplification of the acoustic signal is provided by the Fishman MX system, designed to reproduce the instrument’s dynamic range naturally during live performances and recordings. The piezoelectric transducer is placed under the saddle, directly capturing the mechanical pressure of the strings and the top’s vibrational movement. The preamp features discreet rotary volume (Volume) and tone (Tone) controls fitted to the inner edge of the soundhole, keeping the body’s exterior surface clean and free of side cutouts.
Performing Artist Ergonomics, Richlite & Design Elements
The neck is made from laminated Black Birch Laminate for maximum structural stability and features the ergonomic Performing Artist profile with a High-Performance Taper, maintaining a consistent thickness from the 1-3/4" (44.5 mm) nut to the higher frets. The fingerboard and Modern Belly bridge are made from synthetic FSC Certified Richlite, a dense material that resists wear and moisture. The look is completed by the distinctive Johnny Cash Stars inlays, the CASH lettering on the upper frets, and chrome-plated Chrome Enclosed Gear tuners for precise, stable tuning.
