The Hanna Checker® bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instruments. It is accurate and affordable.

  • Compact, portable design
  • Built-in timer
  • One-button operation

Nitrification is the biological oxidation of ammonia (ammonium ion) to nitrites, followed by the oxidation of nitrites to nitrates. The first step of this 2-step process occurs in an aquarium by nitrifying bacteria. During this process, ammonia levels decrease while nitrite levels increase. Since nitrites are harmful, nitrite levels should be kept at negligible levels. A mature biological filter should be able to maintain low nitrite levels.

If tap water is used in an aquarium, it is recommended to check for phosphates, silicates, ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, pH, and alkalinity.

To start taking measurements, zero the instrument with your water sample. Add the reagent and place the vial in the Checker®, press the button, and read the results. It's very easy.

The curved style of this Checker® fits perfectly in your palm and pocket, and the large LCD screen is easy to read. The auto shut-off feature ensures that the battery life is not exhausted if you forget to turn it off.
