The Straw Hat from Italy, from the time it was written (1851) until today, has never ceased to entertain audiences, as the play is performed very frequently on stages in many countries around the world.
It is an excellent comedy by Eugène Labiche, co-written with Marc Michel, set in Paris in the mid-19th century.
On his wedding day, Fandinar sees his horse eating the straw hat from Italy owned by Anaïs Bopertui, while she is taking a walk in the forest with her lover. Fandinar then has to start searching for a matching hat in order to save this young lady from her jealous husband, which seems simple at first glance but proves to be very difficult.
To avoid arousing suspicion from his father-in-law, who arrives with the entire wedding party, Fandinar drags everyone into a crazy chase to find the hat. The particularly humorous ending takes place on the street in front of Fandinar's house.
