    Excellent handheld PC..
It plays everything... from Cyberpunk and Black Myth Wukong... to Stellar Blade... Elden Ring, Dying Light the beast...
Of course, the graphics settings depend on how demanding each game is,....fsr..frame gen...and for many heavy open world games we also turn on cpu boost...and as I said before....it plays everything excellently.
Personally, I always play plugged in with batterycare on from day one and manual tdp at 22 to 25 watts and the temperature has never exceeded 60 to 63 degrees for me....I would say excellent.
Don't worry about 1080......at 720 it plays perfectly and due to the screen size the difference in resolution is exactly the same....crystal clear.
Excellent screen, with a little adjustment through andrenalin the colors become fantastic.
Before buying and setting up the basics of the device, also take some time to clean up and lighten Windows a bit....a light debloat on these devices helps a lot. Other than that, they run extremely fast and smoothly.
Speakers more than excellent, their quality and volume combined with Dolby literally make the sound burst all around your head and of course that's what I wanted....a device I can hold and take anywhere I want with ease and not a brick that makes your hands hurt from the weight after a while.
I should also note the excellent compatibility of AMD with all games....from the oldest to the most modern....they do an excellent job plus the many and frequent updates the device receives!
Yes, it's an expensive device....but not more expensive than the competition (Ryzen Z2 Extreme).....and of course I don't compare it with Steamdeck and Switch....each is an excellent device for its kind.

As an owner of a Gaming Laptop with RTX 5070 and a desktop with RTX 5060, and having bought many PCs and laptops in recent years, I can say that this is the only Windows device that for some reason truly works flawlessly and never freezes anywhere. For those into gaming, the first program I recommend installing (few know about it) is Playnite and to use it in Full Screen Mode. Once you get used to it, the experience has nothing to envy from the Steam Deck, while the other handheld features Microsoft has integrated work perfectly. In terms of performance, the machine can play almost everything at 120 FPS (+ FSR in any games that support it), as long as you keep the resolution permanently at 900p and for more demanding games at 720p, because on an 8-inch screen the difference from 1080p is practically invisible. Even if you drop the settings to medium, no one will notice a difference as long as you have smooth 120fps, e.g. in The Division 1 at medium settings and 900p. The battery is excellent and it is one of the few Windows gaming devices that manages power so efficiently, to the point that it feels like a Mac-type experience, and the sleep mode works instantly with instant response. The only minor drawback is that the fingerprint sensor is not always completely reliable. In Turbo Mode, the FPS remain the same whether you have the charger connected or not, which is important because in many gaming laptops performance drops when playing on battery. At full load, the battery lasts a little over 1 hour and 15 minutes, but in less demanding games the system automatically lowers the watts and can easily reach about 3 hours. The fans work quietly and flawlessly. GPU 8.6TFLOPS very powerful (e.g. PS5 has 10FLOPS). Changing the SSD for someone who knows takes 10 minutes as long as it is done carefully and the experience is elevated. The screen, sound, and overall performance are excellent, while the controls are the best available on a handheld device, clearly superior to Legion Go and most others on the market. Only the PS Portal has similarly high-quality controls, but that is strictly a streaming device. Overall, it is a top-tier gaming handheld, yes it is expensive but it is truly worth its money. For anyone who is a gamer and can buy it, I believe it is a device worth having in their collection and will last for years, because having studied almost all handhelds on the market, many of them seem more like overpriced concepts compared to this one. Finally, for those complaining that there is no case included in the package, a tip: an ideal carrying case for only 20 euros. Tomtoc FancyCase-G02 ROG Xbox Ally Case

Coming from the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED, I can say that I find the change quite satisfying, but certainly not perfect, and I will explain why below.

    The positives

Right now, we are clearly talking about the most powerful handheld device on the market, and this becomes immediately apparent once you run demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Space, etc. This is the main reason I decided to switch from my previous handheld console.

Additionally, the ergonomic aspect is one of its strong points. It sits very well in the hands, is sturdy, does not tire (although it is noticeably heavier than the Steam Deck), and the layout of the analog sticks, inspired by the Xbox controller, is personally my favorite. I find it much more comfortable compared to the symmetrical layout.

I will also include the LCD screen among the positives, not because it is LCD, but because it is a very good LCD, clearly superior to the Steam Deck LCD or the Nintendo Switch. Personally, I would prefer OLED, but I understand that Asus probably wants to clear out the existing LCD panels from previous models before (and if) they present an OLED version.

What impressed me the most and I did not expect at all, are the speakers. I don't know how they've managed it, but they are really very good and immerse you in the game. It's one of the few times I don't feel the need to wear headphones.

    The negatives

Here I will separate them into general negatives and negatives due to price.

Starting with the most important general negative: the interface/software. Unfortunately, no matter how hard Asus and Microsoft (Xbox) try, they haven't come close to the ease and feel of SteamOS, not even a little. In my opinion, SteamOS remains the dominant operating system for handheld devices, and not without reason.

Moving on to the negatives related to the price:

The screen, although a good LCD, in this price category (900€ at the time of writing this review) should have been OLED.

The 1TB storage space I consider to be little for this price, personally I would like 2TB.

Wi-Fi 6 also seems like a limitation to me. I don't think Wi-Fi 7 would noticeably increase the cost, so its absence is odd.

Another general negative is that no carrying case is included, unlike the Steam Deck. The package only includes a stand, which, to be honest, looks somewhat silly and will hardly be truly useful to most people.

So, in summary, 1 negative regardless of price (software) and 4 negatives due to price.

    The neutrals

I will put the battery in the neutrals. It seems quite good, especially in heavy games (over 2 hours), but I can't say for sure if it could be better. Certainly, from what I read in forums, it has improved noticeably compared to its predecessor.

In conclusion, this is a very good and serious machine. If you can afford the amount, it will not disappoint you in any way. However, we are talking about quite a lot of money, which means that very few will choose it as their main console or main PC.

Pre-ordered on October 6th since I had tried the previous ROG Ally Z1 extreme and I really liked this portable computer concept, which lacks nothing compared to a laptop. So I bought it and it arrived on October 17th, one day after release.
The first thing I did when I turned on the device was to get rid of the custom Windows 11 with the Xbox Experience and install full Windows! First of all, don’t think that just because it comes with the Xbox app built-in as a Full Screen Experience that it’s a portable Xbox gaming console! It’s not an Xbox, in the sense of a console, no matter how much Microsoft insists that everything is Xbox. For starters, it doesn’t play Xbox games, only those that have been released on Gamepass and are supported on Windows. Even for those supported on Windows, no one guarantees 100% that they will run flawlessly. They have done a good job and continue to adapt more and more games to get the green tick that they play on the portable, but FSE is still in its infancy and developing slowly! Maybe with the next Windows Xbox we’ll see this hybrid operating system perform more efficiently. In any case, the Xbox ROG Ally X cannot be called an Xbox console! It’s an Asus portable laptop with Windows 11, with features that give it the title of a Gaming device!
For me, Armoury Crate SE is the only app you need for anything related to Gaming Hub and connecting to all other digital stores like Steam, Gog, and others! Anyway, the Xbox App is already integrated into every Windows 11 installation, so I don’t see the point of Xbox FSE. In terms of driver and game support, Asus has done an excellent job, both with the Armoury Crate I mentioned above and with guides on the Internet on how to set up the Xbox ROG Ally X to run every modern game. For someone who wants to connect it like an Xbox and play whatever they want, they will be disappointed, because you need to experiment quite a bit with the game settings before you start playing! The power plans are excellent and offer APU overclocking at the touch of a button, so you can increase the device’s performance at the cost, naturally, of battery life. The battery is indeed much larger than the previous model, but the duration is nothing to get excited about! Of course, we have to keep in mind that it’s portable! For light games like Indies, older generation games, and emulators, there’s no problem! I measured four and a half hours and a bit more with older emulators and indie games until it gave a charging notification at 15%, all this on Performance setting at 17W. For new games on Turbo setting, it lasted just under 3 hours! I tried Ghost of Tsushima with the settings Asus recommends and Stellar Blade from Steam! Lighter games like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption definitely performed much better! Overall, I’m satisfied with the battery! Mostly satisfied with the performance! What is completely unjustifiable is the cost for what it is and what it can do at €899, especially if you keep in mind Microsoft’s statement that the €899 price is Asus’s and not Microsoft’s suggestion!
Only negative is the price and some concerns about the battery and the size of the screen at 7", especially if you consider that the Switch 2 has an 8" screen and costs €329 less! Otherwise, a device that is worth it, if you can't currently spend €1000+ for a new computer, like me!
I didn't install Steam OS, but I think where it will shine is with an SD card and Emulation Station installed!
Briefly, here are the specs for reference: Processor: AMD RYZEN Z2 Extreme AI, GPU: AMD Radeon 890M, RAM: 24GB, 16GB for the OS, 8GB for the graphics card, which can be changed from the settings depending on how heavy the games you run are, 1TB SSD, 7" IPS screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

  • Excellent handheld PC..
