The classic "Halma" is a game invented in 1883 or 1884 by the American George Howard Monks, played on a square board of 16x16 fields. In Poland, the name Halma has become established for the version of this game played on a star-shaped board (in Lech Pijanowski's edition "Game Period" as well as in many other publications, this version of Halma is called "Trylma", another name is "Chinese Checkers", from the English name "Chinese Checkers"). Players make moves clockwise. Each player, in turn, can move one of their pieces to an adjacent free space (in any direction). It is also allowed to jump over one of their own pieces or an opponent's piece, provided there is a free space on the other side of the jumped piece. Multiple jumps of own or opponent's pieces are also allowed in one move if they are placed in a straight line. The jumped pieces are not removed. The winner is the player who first places all their pieces in the opposite corner of the star. Note: the instructions include rules for various versions of Halma (numerous and solitaire), played both on star-shaped boards and on a checkerboard.
