The cayenne pepper is a variety of the species Capsicum annuum. It is related to sweet peppers, jalapeño peppers, and others. Other names include Guinea spice, cow-horn pepper, red hot chili pepper, aleva, and bird pepper. In powdered form, it is also referred to as red pepper.
