Hawaiian red salt, also known as Alaea sea salt, is a traditional salt widely used in Hawaii for both seasoning and preservation. It gets its red color from the addition of a roasted volcanic clay that enriches the salt with iron oxide.

This natural red clay also imparts a subtle, smooth flavor to the salt, distinguishing it from other sea salts.
