The Revolution was the sudden overturning of institutions that had been deeply rooted in the land for centuries, appearing so unshakable, so unchangeable, that even the most dynamic reformers dared not question them. It was the fall, the fragmentation of the entire established reality, social, religious, political, economic, which had characterized France for centuries. It was the fragmentation of existing ideas and current concepts that concerned all manifestations and complex relationships of all people. It was also the emergence of new perceptions of the relationships between citizens, of new ideas that spread throughout Europe, disturbing the civilized world and bequeathing to the next century their own motto, their own problems, their science, and their economic and moral development.
