Chimney Damper
A damper that functions as a door separating the fireplace from the chimney. It is present in all fireplace hearths, whether open or closed type. In open fireplace hearths, the damper is open during combustion, while when the fireplace is not in use, it must be closed to prevent the entry of air and odors from the chimney. In closed fireplace hearths, the damper must be closed when the fireplace door is closed, and vice versa.
