A damper that functions as a door separating the firebox from the chimney. It is present in all fireplace fireboxes, whether open or closed type. In open fireplace fireboxes, when the fireplace is burning, the damper is open, while when the fireplace is not in operation, the damper should be closed to prevent the entry of air or various odors from the flue pipe. In closed fireplace fireboxes, when the fireplace door is closed, the damper should also be closed, and vice versa.
