Air Distribution and Movement – Diffusers

The purpose of air distribution in air conditioning or ventilation systems is to create the appropriate combination of temperature, humidity, and air movement within the space. Creating comfortable conditions depends on all these parameters, which must stay within specific limits depending on the application.

• For office spaces with a high number of people, the recommended air velocity should be less than 0.35 m/s.
• Suitable diffusers regulate the supply, velocity, and direction of the air to meet specific requirements.
• The air exits the diffusers at speeds and temperatures different from those tolerated in the space.

Diffusion gradually reduces the velocity and temperature differences until they reach acceptable limits. The air exiting the diffuser forms the primary flow, which entrains the existing air and creates the secondary flow. These masses mix and create the final airflow.
