Air distribution and movement – Outlets
The purpose of air distribution in air conditioning or ventilation systems is to create the appropriate combination of temperature, humidity, and air movement in the space. Creating comfortable conditions depends on all the above parameters, which must range within specific limits for each application.
- For example, in an office space with a high number of people, the recommended air velocity should be less than 0.35 m/s.
- To achieve these conditions, we supply and exhaust air through appropriate outlets.
- Through these, we can control the flow rate, velocity, and direction of the air.
The air exits the outlets at velocities higher and temperatures different from those tolerated in the space. Thanks to diffusion, these differences gradually decrease until they reach acceptable limits. The air exiting the outlet is the primary flow, which entrains the existing air in the space and creates the secondary flow. The above air masses mix and create the final flow.
